Meet our Governors

David Trafford: Chair of Governors

Hello! I’m Dave Trafford, originally from Liverpool, I've lived in Stockport for 30 years or so. I've been a Governor at Bridge Hall Primary School for over 25 years. My background is Higher Education, Joining Liverpool University as a trainee technician in 1971, and Retiring as Training Officer in 2012. I've witnessed the progress of our school from very difficult times in the mid ‘90s to the opening of the brand new building we enjoy today. More recently, the opening of the, amazing, Early Years play area. We have more plans for further development to ensure we provide the best learning facilities we can for our school community. I'm also a Trustee Director of CASORT, (Citizens Advice, Stockport Oldham, Rochdale & Trafford). I Chair the Governing Body, and I'm a member of the Finance Committee and School Improvement Committee. I'm also the Safeguarding Link Governor. 

 

Yvonne Guariento: Vice Chair of Governors & Local Authority Governor

I have been a Governor at Bridge Hall since 1996 and have seen a lot of improvements in that time. I am a retired Deputy Head in a secondary school  and hope to use my professional experience to support the governing Board and Senior Leadership team at the school. I am a Governor at another Stockport primary school and I have been  a councillor at Stockport Council for six years. I am Vice Chair of the Governing Board a serve on the Finance and School Improvement committees. I am committed to improving the life chances of our pupils through the excellence of the school’s teaching and leadership.

 

Sue Thomas, Co-opted Governor

I’m Sue Thomas, I’ve been a governor at Bridge Hall Primary School for 10 years and I am retired. Before that I was employed for many years by Stockport Council where I worked with neighbourhoods to deliver opportunities for people to improve their quality of life. For my last few years of employment I was based in Bridge Hall. I am particularly interested in the power of education to improve life chances and I feel reading is especially important. As a governor I chair the School Improvement Committee and I have oversight of Early Years (EYFS) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

 

Lorna Stockwood, Co-opted Governor

I’m Lorna Stockwood, and I'm originally from Davenport. For over 5 years now, I've been a supporter of Bridge Hall Primary, first through the PTA and now as a Co-opted Governor. I'm passionate about bringing out the best in our school community. With my background in marketing, project management, and educational technology, I'm here to help make the educational journey even more enriching. As a governor, I focus on areas like PSHE, Reading, Wellbeing, and Development and am a member of the School Improvement Committee, working alongside others to further elevate teaching and learning at Bridge Hall.

 

Samuel Nickson: Parent Governor

I'm Samuel Nickson, proud to serve as a Parent Governor at Bridge Hall Primary School. With one child currently attending and another who recently graduated to secondary education after thriving here, I bring a deep understanding of parental perspectives to our governance team. My background in automotive engineering, transport management, and business operations, coupled with my role as co-owner and director of four local businesses, equips me to contribute effectively to our Finance and School Improvement committees, striving for excellence in our school.

 

Leslie Smith: Parent Governor

I'm Leslie Smith, a parent governor at Bridge Hall Primary School. With a background spanning forensic science, compliance & auditing, and education, I'm dedicated to ensuring every child has the opportunity to explore, learn, and thrive. Armed with a strong academic background and currently pursuing a PGCE in Primary education, I advocate for learning through play and firmly believe in equitable access to quality education for all children, regardless of their background. As a parent of two young children, including one at the school, I'm committed to fostering an environment where every child can flourish.

 

Dickie Davies: Co-opted Governor

My name is Dickie Davies. I have been a governor at Bridge Hall Primary School for eight years. I attend governing body meetings and act as chair on the Finance Committee .My background is in further education, where I mainly taught Sociology. In total I was a classroom teacher for 38 years. For the last 9 years I have served as an elected councillor on Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. Bridge Hall Primary School is in Davenport and Cale Green ward which I represent.  

 

Doreen Cartwright: Co-opted Governor

I'm Doreen, local resident of Bridge Hall and Community Leader. I have recently retired after serving the Bridge Hall community for more than two decades as Caretake/Manager of our local community centre. I have a keen interest in empowering our children having run numerous clubs and activities for children on the estate and, as a school governor, I champion the value and power of access to a good education which Bridge Hall provides.
