Meet our Governors
Samuel Nickson: Acting Chair Governor
I'm Samuel Nickson, proud to serve as a Parent Governor at Bridge Hall Primary School. With one child currently attending and another who recently graduated to secondary education after thriving here, I bring a deep understanding of parental perspectives to our governance team. My background in automotive engineering, transport management, and business operations, coupled with my role as co-owner and director of four local businesses, equips me to contribute effectively to our Finance and School Improvement committees, striving for excellence in our school.
Sue Thomas, Co-opted Governor
I’m Sue Thomas. I’ve been a governor at Bridge Hall Primary School for 10 years, and I am retired. Before that, I was employed for many years by Stockport Council where I worked with neighbourhoods to deliver opportunities for people to improve their quality of life. For my last few years of employment, I was based in Bridge Hall. I am particularly interested in the power of education to improve life opportunities and I feel reading is especially important. As a governor, I chair the School Improvement Committee and I have oversight of Early Years (EYFS) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Dickie Davies: Co-opted Governor
My name is Dickie Davies. I have been a governor at Bridge Hall Primary School for eight years. I attend governing body meetings and act as chair of the Finance Committee . My background is in further education, where I mainly taught Sociology. In total, I was a classroom teacher for 38 years. For the last 9 years, I have served as an elected councillor on Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. Bridge Hall Primary School is in Davenport and Cale Green ward, which I represent.
Doreen Cartwright: Co-opted Governor
I'm Doreen, local resident of Bridge Hall and Community Leader. I have recently retired after serving the Bridge Hall community for more than two decades as Caretaker and Manager of our local community centre. I have a keen interest in empowering our children, having run numerous clubs and activities for children on the estate and, as a school governor, I champion the value and power of access to a good education which Bridge Hall provides.
Charmaine Elstone: Co-opted Governor
I’m Charmaine Elstone, and I recently joined the governing board as a Co-opted Governor. I work in the UK Civil Service as a qualified accountant, supporting major programmes through financial analysis and cost assurance. As a new governor, I’m looking forward to learning more about the role and getting to know the school community, and I appreciate being able to contribute to the school’s direction and success.
Miss R Platt: Staff Governor
I have been a member of the team at Bridge Hall for 5 years, currently working as the Year 6 Class Teacher. In addition to my daily role in the classroom, I am proud to serve as Staff Governor.
Having the opportunity to work directly with our children every day gives me a clear, hands-on understanding of school life. As Staff Governor, my goal is to bring that classroom perspective to the governing body, ensuring our staff team is well represented while supporting the school’s continuous growth and standard of education.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, walking and exploring National Trust locations. I am always happy to chat with colleagues, parents, and visitors across the school community!
