A key principle of Operation Encompass is that all incidents of domestic abuse are shared with schools, not just those where an offence has been identified.

Each school designates a trained Key Adult—an individual responsible for receiving information about domestic abuse incidents attended by the police.

The Key Adult is informed before the start of the next school day when the police have attended such an incident. This timely sharing of information ensures that the child receives appropriate support, allowing all interactions from the moment they arrive at school to be positive and supportive.
